non-valentine's day extravaganza
I have to admit, I'm not a big Valentine's Day type of girl. It's just so overdone and commercialized, that it doesn't seem special. So, this weekend, Seth and I decided to have a Mid-February-Anti-Winter Doldrums celebration. We went to a huge antique store up in Pennsylvania, followed by a movie and dinner.
Instead of exchanging gifts, we decided to give each other a mini-shopping spree. So, we each brought a crisp $20 with us and exchanged it (to make it official) in the car before we headed inside. He decided to buy a few baseball cards and I ended up being drawn to quirky glassware.
First up, I found this cool little retro number:
I can't wait to drink some Cherry Coke out of it. It seems like a Cherry Coke type of glass, doesn't it? Well, I think so.
Next up is a classic:
Who wouldn't want a Wimpy glass?? I imagine Root Beer and a hamburger would go nicely with this one.
And finally, the Best. Glass. Ever.
Behold:
Yes, that's right. A Don Ho glass. With an etched picture of Don Ho on the back. I don't think my picture quite shows the magnitude of its glory.
So there you have it. Extravaganza.
One of the funny moments of the day:
Seth and I had split up to do our own browsing and while I was looking at a bunch of vintage Pyrex dishes...I dropped one of the glass lids. The sound it made in the otherwise quiet store was deafening. Luckily, nobody saw me. Doubly-luckily, nothing broke. Those pyrex dishes are surprisingly sturdy. So later on after I found Seth, I casually asked him, "umm, so did you happen to hear a really loud crashing sound earlier?" He definitely heard it, along with everyone else in the store. Me = bull. Antique store = china shop.
Oh, and if you didn't click on the link above, the movie we went to see was Juno. It was, in a word: amazing.
Hope everyone had a great weekend, too! (But really, without a Don Ho glass of your own, I can understand if yours pales in comparison. Better luck next weekend.)
P.S. -- I'm testing out a new little graphic in my banner. I like him :) Not quite sure how I'll change up the banner yet, but it's a work in progress.
